Vampire Star Shreds It Off

If you are a Twilight addict (like my cousin Ceej) or Robert Pattinson’s admirer (like my sister Jill) or Edward Cullen’s fan (like me), by now, you have turned to the World Wide Web in a frenzy of look-ups for the sexy vampire star’s new haircut.

Fans think that Rob’s new do is a hair DON’T- he traded in his trademark sexy tousled locks (perfect for vampiring) for a no-muss, marine-style crew cut. (Perfect for looking like a standard Hollywood star.)

I think this issue or non-issue did bite me after my Christmas heightened joie de vivre subsided. What can I do? It’s all over in the internet!

In my view, I commend Rob for not giving in to stereotyping. Yes, he was good, if not best, in portraying Edward Cullen in Twilight but let's face it, we are more in love with the character than the actor himself. Besides, he has to do other movie roles that need to sport another haircut. He can't play vampire forever, you know. Now, let’s give the guy his freedom to decide what’s the best look for him, okay?

Maybe you ask: Can he still give Edward a much deserved justice in the sequels (New Moon and Eclipse) that will start filming in three months’ time? I think so. Even if he will have to wear wigs? Absolutely.

Again, the Twilight series is not all about Robert Pattinson’s hair. It's much deeper and bigger than that. So loosen it up, people!

What do you think of Rob's new haircut?
Love it! Hate it! So-so.

Husband Reacts

When Mark (my then boyfriend of five years) asked me to marry him, I told him yes right away but with two conditions. First, I should have me-alone-time every week because there are certain things that I want to do on my own such as reading. Second, I easily get bored with routines so he should support me in looking for something that perks me up like books. He might think those were just easy terms that’s why he agreed without any second thought.

I bought a copy of Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum just few months into our marriage. I didn’t eat nor sleep until I finished the book. He was shocked. Then he also read it in order to understand me more yet it took him three months to finish. I was shocked.

As expected, I got obsessed with Jason Bourne. I was agitated when I couldn’t find the sequel right away. He helped me look for it everywhere but to no avail. I then asked a friend of mine in the US to buy me the other two books in the series - Bourne Supremacy and Bourne Ultimatum. I was happy to get hold of them. Perhaps that was the turning point of my husband’s empathy to my passion in reading. (By the way, I didn’t like the Bourne movie trilogy at all. It did not give Ludlum’s plot a much deserved justice.)

When we had our cable TV installed, my mind was fully diverted to tennis. I saw Mark’s relief when I spent most of my “me time” with him by watching the tournaments.

The tennis season ended in the last week of November just in time Twilight also hit the theaters. Well, you know what happened after that. I got infatuated with Edward, to say the least.

At first Mark just shrugged it off. I mean, why would he care when he knew in his heart that this was just pure craziness? He didn’t mind at all if I talked about another man, a fictional man, if I may add. He was so cool about it.

Until last Tuesday evening when he found me in my chair exactly the same way he left me that morning – reading more Edwards, as he said. He looked perturbed.

I was surprised when he woke me up with a breakfast in bed the following morning. He told me that he wanted to be my Edward forever. I smiled and then I laughed. How could he become so affected? Didn’t I just say that he was just cool about it? I looked at him, seriously this time, and told him that he will always be my one and only greatest love. I added that Edward is a mere fantasy. He beamed and then he kissed me.

It came as an epiphany to me that Mark has been very patient with my unconventionalities. He has supported me in everything that I do. He continually embraces my strengths as well as my weaknesses. I’ve found an unconditional love in Mark and I wouldn’t exchange that for anything in the world. Yes, even if Edward Cullen is for real.

New Moon Shines Dimly

Somebody should have warned me that Twilight could be dangerously addictive. Now it’s too late to do that because I’ve surrendered myself to its fang and I’ve been bitten as slave forever.

I finished reading New Moon (the second book) around ten last night. I was so glad that I was over it because I swear I already damaged my eyes. I literally just sit in front of my PC reading the eBook the whole day, with the exception of the mandatory eight-hour sleep and occasional restroom trips of course. Think how bad it was for my eyes! And yeah, I took my meals in my recliner as well that made me surely looked like a hermit.

However, New Moon didn’t actually live up to my expectation simply because it’s more about Bella. I love her character but I do love Edward more. I wanted more of him but I only got his so-called voices whispering on her mind. The first two chapters were about goodbyes when the Cullens finally decided to leave Forks; and the next fifteen revolved around the pain and healing of Bella from the breakup with the help of her friend, Jacob Black, who turned into a werewolf. In fact, I think that I’ve read the Bella-suffering-and-recovering story many times before in other books by other authors.

Yet again, Stephanie Meyer wouldn’t be a New York Times bestseller for nothing. For me, she didn’t outdo the first book but she is good in choosing her wordings. She continually makes every character and scenery alive. She never fails to do genius things on the epic that she creates. I commend her for bringing Edward back in the last seven chapters of New Moon in a timeless style. The setting in Italy when Bella wanted to save Edward from damnation was so mind-blowing.

Now I’m wondering how New Moon would succeed in theaters like Twilight did. I’ve read that Catherine Hardwicke will not be directing the sequels due to time constraint and Summit Entertainment is pushing the production to shoot New Moon back-to-back with Eclipse (the third book) in order to lower the costs. Well the good thing is, Robert Pattinson will still play Edward and for me, that is all that matters.

If you haven’t read any of the five Twilight series yet, take my advice: watch the movie first so that Edward’s face will be stuck on your mind and then read the books while listening to Yiruma’s “River Flows in You” because it will certainly make you love Edward and Bella to your veins (as mommy el puts it). I also like the other songs in the soundtrack (in my playlist below) especially Decode by Paramore.

I guess I have to do the normal things for now (not that reading a vampire story is abnormal though). I need to do the laundry that is mounting up in the last five days of my seclusion and the supplies are running out so I need to do the grocery as well.

Maybe after the chores and my nap later, I can start reading Eclipse and I’ll blog about it as soon as I’m done. But wait, it will be more interesting to write about my husband’s reaction to my Twilight obsession first things first, whatcha think?

Still Can't Get Over the Twilight Fever

My good friend Chen happened to read my review of Twilight the other day and she told me through my ShoutMix that I have to read its book as it was far better than the movie. She said confidently that I would fall deeper in love with Edward Cullen after reading the book. I replied that I could buy it on the weekend yet (as if I could hold my anxiety that long). Then Chen informed me that I could read the whole saga through ebook and she emailed it to me right away.

I didn’t have any idea about the power of ebooks until I downloaded the whole thing from my inbox. When I saw Stephanie Meyer’s paperbacks (read: Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn, and very soon, Midnight Sun) on my newly installed Microsoft Reader (which Chen also sent), I was elated! Twilight, my latest obsession, was right in front of me!

And so I immediately took a shower, changed to my sleeping dress, and turned my husband’s laptop on upstairs. Then I let the words of Meyer to transport me into the misty town of Forks, Washington. At that point, I knew my life would never be the same again.

The Twilight saga has poisoned the very core of my imagination, in a good way of course. My mind now revolves around Edward Cullen. Edward's smile, pain, passion, and voice that echoes through the halls of my soul, have become the fuel that fires my fantasies.

Chen was right, I fall deeper into my infatuation with Edward. I wish I could elaborate it further but I’m afraid someone reading this might think of sending me to an asylum.

I finished reading Twilight around noon today. This totaled almost 15 hours of facing the computer and squinting my nearly blind eyes every now and then. (I could be cruel to my eyes when I read.) I swear I felt consumed once I let go of the last word. I took a long nap after that.

After dinner, I became conscious that Twilight strongly captured my interest because it is focused on the human side of the vampires. There is an addiction in knowing how long Edward could last not hurting Bella. And also, I realized that I like the movie more because I got to see Edward’s face.

(Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen)

Isn’t he adorable? Wait till you know how good he plays the piano. You don't have any idea how I obsessed I am in searching about him on Google and YouTube.

(Emmet, Rosalie, Esme, Edward, Carlisle, Alice, Jasper)

Also, fictitious as it may seem, I make an effort to believe that the Cullens exist in my own little world. I so love this vampire clan.

It’s 9.40 in the evening now, the twilight will be over soon. Tomorrow, I will start reading New Moon. So, expect more posts about the vampires' saga here.

Before I end, I'd like to say my gratitude to Chen for always being sweet and kind to me. Thank you so much for everything, my friend. I'm happy that you have found your “edward” at last.

To Mommy El, my bookmate, as always. Remember the Jean Auel series? Thanks for the Edward's lullaby link. I swear, the Twilight soundtrack really rocks! It’s on my media box below. Check it out!

To all, thank you for keeping up with my craziness and for keeping me sane!

Falling in Love with Twilight

Do you know the feeling when your heart is longing for someone who could sweep you off your feet and you become consumed with it until you don’t know what is real anymore?

That’s how I felt after watching Twilight. I utterly fell in love with the movie and I absolutely cried for more!

My husband asked me if I love him this early morning. I teasingly said no because at the present my heart is beating wildly for Edward Cullen. He pouted then smiled because he said I sounded like a star struck high school girl.

I guess I am for now as I can’t get the character played by Robert Pattinson out of my mind. His lines are ricocheting through the halls of my soul over and over again. Indeed, I’m experiencing my own blast of movie estrogen right now.

Edward is a vampire. Bella is a suffering-in-silence girl. They both got attracted to each other from the first moment they met. When she found out that he was a vampire, she told him it doesn’t stop her from loving him. Edward risked being with someone he wanted to consume yet he told Bella that he doesn’t have the strength to stay away from her anymore. Her nearness became his obsession and his love for her became his religion.

For a low-budget movie like Twilight which has won over the hearts of many fans around the world, it is certainly a phenomenon. For me, it is a modern epic. Lastly, if Twilight doesn’t make you fall in love with love again, nothing else will.
