For the Love of Fashion

When Sharon Cuneta’s 3M Hermes bag was featured on SNN some time ago, it was hugely commented as “extravagance” by kibitzers worldwide. Some said Sharon could have donated the money to hungry children instead; others say she was not helping the weak Philippine economy by being lavish. Nonsense! Sharon can’t save our country or the hungry children by not buying Hermes bag alone. She is working (ads, albums, shows, movies, concerts, etc.) thus she is earning thus she has the right to purchase anything she wants and needs. So please, give her a break.

This also goes to Ruffa Gutierrez’s lavish shoe collection which was shown on SNN last night. Before it will create a wildfire on the internet again, I want to say that Ruffa, like Sharon, deserves these indulgences too.

Thanks PEP for the photos. See more of Ruffa's shoe collection here. Related post here.

My Celebrity Style Twin

What kind of swimsuit would you be most likely to wear? A string bikini with an interesting pattern.

Everyone knows that shoes define a woman's style. How would you describe your ideal shoe? Faux diamond studded high heel sandals.

You've been invited to a fancy event and are going to go all out with your clothes. What would you most like to wear? A simple strapless belted dress that shows off my figure.

You'd like to pair your best pair of jeans with: A flirty open back top.

Your favorite accessory tends to be: A headband.

My Celebrity Style Twin is Nicole Richie

The perfect blend of uptown and downtown.

Hollywood Hair Makeover

It’s Saturday! How do you want to enjoy it? If you ask me, I seriously want to have a hair makeover today.

Last night, I tried on the cuts I wanted at InStyle and oh boy, I had fun! The not-so-fun is that my hubby thought I looked like bayot (drag queen) on my photos but he tactfully added that I don’t have to look like somebody else because I’m already beautiful as I am. Awwwss!

In my dangerously lambing voice I said, “Honey ko, I’m really bored na with my hair, I need it styled differently na, okay?” But of course, the answer was the usual “ok, if it makes you happy”.

So my friends, please help me decide on what will be my next hairstyle..

Let's Go Boho!

When you go out and instantly you wish you were in Iceland, you'd know that it is summertime. Of course, you’d also know it judging the fashion cuts shops are displaying on their stands and racks.

I passed by a shop at SM Cebu the other day but I forgot its name yet the designs of their clothes and accessories really stuck in my mind.

Then I found out through my friend, Google, that the style which caught my eyes is called Bohemian or Boho fashion. I lust over it and soon (hello banker?!), I’m gonna wear a few of these..

Vampire Star Shreds It Off

If you are a Twilight addict (like my cousin Ceej) or Robert Pattinson’s admirer (like my sister Jill) or Edward Cullen’s fan (like me), by now, you have turned to the World Wide Web in a frenzy of look-ups for the sexy vampire star’s new haircut.

Fans think that Rob’s new do is a hair DON’T- he traded in his trademark sexy tousled locks (perfect for vampiring) for a no-muss, marine-style crew cut. (Perfect for looking like a standard Hollywood star.)

I think this issue or non-issue did bite me after my Christmas heightened joie de vivre subsided. What can I do? It’s all over in the internet!

In my view, I commend Rob for not giving in to stereotyping. Yes, he was good, if not best, in portraying Edward Cullen in Twilight but let's face it, we are more in love with the character than the actor himself. Besides, he has to do other movie roles that need to sport another haircut. He can't play vampire forever, you know. Now, let’s give the guy his freedom to decide what’s the best look for him, okay?

Maybe you ask: Can he still give Edward a much deserved justice in the sequels (New Moon and Eclipse) that will start filming in three months’ time? I think so. Even if he will have to wear wigs? Absolutely.

Again, the Twilight series is not all about Robert Pattinson’s hair. It's much deeper and bigger than that. So loosen it up, people!

What do you think of Rob's new haircut?
Love it! Hate it! So-so.

It's Time for Shopping!

It’s seven days to Christmas and I have yet to buy presents and get ready for the noche buena.

It is the only time of the year that my husband allows me to splurge on him (as you know he’s not vain and he’s pretty okay with just anything in his wardrobe – jerseys, giveaway shirts, faded jeans) so I’m gonna buy something special for him like aviator sunglasses from Ray-Ban.

And my sister Jill will get a waffle hoody that’s so ‘in’ these days.

For me, well, all I need is a solid pair of ear plugs. I’m suffering distress at the sound of fireworks in the neighborhood these days more so on Christmas and New Year’s Eve. I’m sure I’ll chicken out when chaos of bangs and squeals of powerful “rockets” begins. I don’t need to buy one though as my husband’s shooter’s ear plugs will do.

For my family and godchildren, I think I could excuse myself to give them tangible things these holidays since they are all in the province. Besides, Mark and I will move to Cebu early next year thus I will have plenty of time to make up for my “debts” when I get there. (LOL.. good alibi ha?!) Instead, I will give them personalized greetings this Christmas – something that is carved my heart.

And what’s for noche buena? I plan to prepare fried chicken, macaroni salad, grilled bangus, fried calamares, pancit, nachos, and fruit cocktail. The bread and cake, I will just buy at Goldilocks.

I guess it’s time to spend the gift certificates from Sodexho!

I Celebrate My Birthday with a Cut

It is my ritual to have my hair cut on my birthday. And so after attending the Holy Mass at Nuestra Señora de la Soledad de Porta Vaga early this morning, I went to Index Salon to have it done with a fringe.

To my astonishment, Rica (my favorite stylist) didn’t approve because according to him, my hair is wavy and it can’t carry a fringe well. He suggested that I should have it rebonded first before I can have it styled my way.

Is the slogan ‘customers are always right’ a passé these days?

Well, I excused Rica because I know he just wanted the best look for me. Maybe I can have the fringe on New Year’s Day. Of course, only after a rebond or a change of heart that I would go to another salon.

For the meantime, here is the traditional before and after photo of my new layered do:
